The Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme (HiBIS)
Under the federal government's HiBIS scheme, service providers are paid an incentive for every connection that they make.
The incentive funding is designed to enable a service provider to put in place the necessary infrastructure that would normally be cost prohibitive in rural and regional areas.
Once the infrastructure is in place, a service provider is able to connect fewer customers to receive an effective return on their investment.
Competition in Broadband
The objective of the project is to ensure competition in Broadband services by inviting a number of local and national telecommunications service providers to present their products to these communities, with the intention of offering at least two competitive Broadband solutions.
Each council will work closely with their communities to establish the demand for Broadband, assist in creating an appropriate committee to champion connection for their community, and liaise with telecommunication service providers to encourage them to offer solutions to meet the needs of each community.
The more people in your community who register their interest in obtaining a Broadband connection, the easier it will be to facilitate a cost effective solution for you.
